Brevity has its advantage

I am going to the zoo today in order to confirm the superiority of the human race by observing animals presented in an environment designed to stifle the instincts we have extinguished from ourselves.

  1. To be clear, one cannot extinguish a trait "from" anything.

  2. Funny you should say that Tracy. Dan and I just got back from a weekend in St. Louis. We went to the Zoo and then went to dinner at Lacledes's Landing. Today we went to Grant's Farm. It was a great weekend with the exception of Dan's city driving skills. Good Lord have mercy!

  3. I can't go to zoos anymore. When I was a teen I saw an orangutan sitting in a cage, clutching the bars.. One the palms of his hands were lines, just like mine. Just like anyone's.
From that point on, I could not file past the cages without a deep feeling of "wrongness" coming over me. I felt as though I was staring at myself behind those bars.
The bars said that we're superior, but the lines on his hands told me that when we imprison others, we imprison ourselves.
